Quick question for people using live view focus on D800 and/or D600

If resolution is your goal, then I don't see how going from 36 MP to 24 MP can be in any way advantageous.  Assuming you are at the point where your lenses, support, and technique are capable of extracting all the resolution you could get from a D800 (and I'm assuming in your case that is so under ideal conditions), then you would have to lose 22% of that before a D600 would be comparable.  I don't think it's at all likely that you would even lose 10% from a D800 due to Live View inadequacy, so you should just get the D800.

I would add that I went from Live View with my D300 to no Live View with my A850, and the A850 always delivers more resolution than the D300 when shooting in static conditions, and it very often delivers all the 44% extra resolution it is capable of delivering.  Getting Live View is one of the reasons I will be selling my A850 and getting the D800 (when finances allow it), and probably my biggest reason to make the switch will be Nikon's superior AF system, increased DR and latitude are also big reasons, but the 36 MP is also important to me and I wouldn't make the move for landscape photography just for the Live View without the added resolution.
