Best choice for a "hectic shooting conditions" lens on my d800e? 24-120 f4 passable?

For storm chasing do you need as much tele as 120?  I'd think most of what you shoot would be much wider, but I don't chase storms!  If that's so, you might consider the 16-35 f/4.  I have both and they are both quite good.  For landscapes the 16-35 is my fav.
