The old 35mm f/2 D on a D700

Hi,

I have a pretty basic - 50mm 1.8 D lens for a D700. I am using it but plan to upgrade it to the G when I have the cash.

Today I hit a 35mm f/2 D on the second hand market for a price almost as low as a used 50mm 1.8 D. I was not planning on buying that lens -I always thought it was a mediocre lens in wider apertures- but, for the price I thought it was worth a try. I will also upgrade the 50 D for a better wide open performance. I enjoy shooting in wide apertures.

Is there any magic with this lens in FF? I mean, does it have a unique rendering to itself? I am looking at sample photos of it but since all of them are processed, it is hard to tell what really is the lenses character.
