RX100 Sony Carryspeed Mag filter

Hi. just curious what is the exact use for the carryspeed mag filter on the RX100?  is it a magnet to fit in front of the lens?

I read in a post it was used for landscape?  What would it accomplish?

or is it used mainly for a tourist who would take pictures through a glass to prevent reflections?
