Why does D800 need sharp primes but D7000 works great with kit lens?

You are right. It is quite strange and as above posters noted, without cause. Note one poster refers to 'older and cheaper' lenses haha. Just go to flickr and google the D800 with many legacy lenses (or the NX7 which is even more pixel dense) and see wonderful, sharp, detailed, contrasty, beautiful images.

But yes, pros may need fast focusing and newly 'reliable' and fine lenses, thats fine. As others said, Nikon makes great lenses, but it does not mean their old lenses suddenly stopped refracting light.

What happened when better film came out, people suddenly raced out to buy new lenses? If they were good enough....

One really has to wonder.
