But when I take a picture vertically (using the grip) on playback it shows it sideways. Shouldn't it rotate 90 degrees to view in portrait? I do have the menu setting to rotate turned on. Maybe I'm expecting this because my cell phone does it. Did I just compare the a77 to a cell phone camera? Ok, let me have it!

Playback Display. Manual Rotate
the camera does not sense orientation while in playback mode.
