Thanks for the info. It was quite informative and pretty much confirmed the 4 years shooting with the D700. When you're in a rush and you can't use he scientific method for every shoot as suggested in the article, I would like a camera that has some forgiveness. They seem to have solved it for the shadows but not for the highlights.  I have found that the most challenging photo has always been a white wedding dress and a black tux with fill flash. I guess I want my D800 to act like Portra 400.
