do not add a touch screen

May I ask what makes you dislike touch screens so much that you are unhappy with the option to disable one?

A touch screen really opens a new world of AF photography. Without it you have no idea what the camera will decide to focus on. As far as I can currently tell, a touch screen makes AF about 10 times more relevant. I had the pleasure to always have touch screens on my AF cameras, and being forced to go without one on my new NEX-6 makes me seriously consider selling it and getting a 5R instead.

...but perhaps not too much:

  • first, TS is a very poor bedfellow to EVF usage and UI - I can't see a single advantage for picking FPs or even area to perform manual assist on, with user's eye glued to EVF;
  • but even more serious is an imminent danger, that with TS present they will skimp on a proper external controls and well thought over UI - and replace them with a need to do an endless finger poking onto some dreadful menu-system !!

How do you pick FP with an EVF or LCD without TS? Seems like one has to hope that the camera magically picks the right point, which at least for me often fails and is extremely annoying when you're trying to capture a special moment but can't.

Note that I wasn't suggesting to use the EVF and TS LCD simultaneously, but one or the other (former for manual lens focusing, latter for AF). I just can't see how AF can be nearly as practical without TS.
