Sigma warranty - now down to just 1 year in USA?

Finally received my Xmas gift from my wife (came in a mail last night) a new Sigma 35 1.4, a very popular new lens from their new A class of lenses.   She got it from 47th Street Camera in New York, through Amazon.  Now it comes in a stylish new WHITE minimalistic box with "A" for ART label.  The lens itself is beautifully build, almost Zeiss-like in appearance and feel.

However, one thing disappointing, the Warranty card says that the warranty in "Americas" including USA is only 1 year!!!   Whats up with that?  Wasn't previously Sigma 4 or 5 year warranty on lenses?  Did they decide since they are not going to do quality lenses, the warranty of 1 year is all that is needed, like Canon?
