NEX 6 and Sony Remote App question

I'm trying to connect my iphone 5 to my NEX6 but having difficulties. I've uploaded the Remote app to the camera off the app store and uploaded the Play Mobile app off the store to my iPhone as directed from Sony's site. But when I try to connect the two I get the following message on my iPhone "Error ~ Search the shooting device from the network setting of the terminal and set it" I have no idea what this means or understand what to do about it. I've searched Sony's web site for help and/or chat and/or a phone number to call but I just get the usual run-around. Has anyone experienced this issue or have a suggestion on where to go to get help? I would sincerely appreciate any help I can get - thank you.
