You can mask the viewfinder if you turn off built-in AF area illumination off, it's a custom setting a3 or a5 or somethin.  This is something I toggle on and off a bit, as I like it on (red AF points) but would rather mask the viewfinder in DX crop mode, which I use often with my 85mm.
