Is that true? My understanding is that for a given sensor size, cameras with the smallest pixels give the best low-ISO performance (both noise and resolution,) but large pixels perform better at high ISOs because they generally have lower read noise. The Canon 50D was considered a step down from the 40D at high ISOs for this reason, despite the improved processing engine.
