I am looking into either a 35mm 1.4g or 50mm ... I want the best prime lens to use on d800e and d4. I don't understand why the 50mm is so inexpensive compared to the 35mm or the 85mm. I am trying to decide between the two. can someone explain what I am missing?

50mm is easy to make, and it has mass appeal. 35mm is harder to make at f1.4 and also nikon puts better glass inside of it for a specific type of rendition or look. There is a lot more to lenses than just sharpness and aperature. It depends on what you like and what you need. Nikons current pro prime line-up (24,35,85) doesn't suit my tastes.
