It may be only me but when one person is in focus and someone next to him is slightly OOF, it looks kind of funny.

If you are seeing this (and you still need the light) take 2 big steps forward. Otherwise you have little other option other than stopping down and bumping ISO.

I used to see that slight bokeh problem all the time from newer second shooters, who only have experience with zooms.
