Your thoughts: Zeiss 135mm or 70-200mm f/4 + 28mm f/1.8?

I agree 100%.  The 16-35 is a specialized landscape lens. The 14-24 is not. I once owned it, now I have a 16-35 + nikkor 28g (also zeiss 21 and nikkor 24 PCE).  Very very happy on d800e.

I'd get the 135 which better complements your kit. Besides, if you have only one option, always go for the better one. You can always get later a (cheaper) lens, but once you will shoot with the 135 you'll lose interest for anything else. Eventually consider trading your 14-24 for a 16-35 + 28 F/1.8
