Wall colors, window blinds, darkening cloth?
Jan 3, 2013

Hello,

we are finishing some reconstructions of rooms which will become our photo studio. As for an equipment, we went with Manfrotto Autopole background system, and Elinchrom 3x Elinchrom RX 3.

But - what we are not sure about is, how to properly dim the rooms. We either go with window blinds, and then we face white colored walls, or by hanging some satin or velvet or other kind of cloth with ability to absorb/not reflect the light. What we surely don't want to do, is to paint the walls to black color.

We can use some advice of those experienced here - what is the typical aproach taken? Are white walls OK? Would painting them to some 17% grey help, or still not enough? Please bear with us as with happy amateurs, who are just trying to set-up their first studio

Thanks,

Petr
