Okay, that said, why is it that Fuji continues to lag far behind the class leaders in CDAF performance?

Because the "class leaders" have been at it a lot longer. The first Olympus mirrorless cameras sucked at autofocus (which caused open warfare in the Micro Four Thirds forum between the Olympus fanboys and those who said the autofocus sucked).

Fuji will get better, and has already improved substantially, but it usually takes time.

My Fujifilm GA645, made in the 1990's out performs my X100, by a looong shot.

A film camera. Different technology. Completely irrelevant.

Canon and Nikon's film SLR lenses didnt suddenly stop working when attached to digital cameras.

Not irrelevant at all.

Fujifilm themselves have made better focusing cameras than their current offering.

Unless it had a sensor at least APS-C size, it is irrelevant.
