Your thoughts: Zeiss 135mm or 70-200mm f/4 + 28mm f/1.8?

Perhaps this seems like a chickens and eggs comparison, but I'm pondering a choice between these two longer lenses (and if I got the cheaper one, I could pop for a 28mm). I shoot with a D800, primarily landscapes, but think that the Zeiss would open up some close composition possibilities. Whichever I select, I'd get TC-20E III to expand its range. So I would effectively have:

  • 70-200mm f/4
  • 140-400mm f/8
  • 28mm f/1.8
  • or
  • 135mm f/2
  • 270mm f/4

Since I shoot with a D800, I have some cropping flexibility if the FL is a bit short. Of course, with the TC, I'd probably shoot stopped down at least one stop with either lens. Again, with the D800 I could sacrifice some DR and a little noise if I have to raise the ISO with the 70-200mm, or rely on VR.

My current lenses are 14-24mm, 50mm f1.8G, 85mm f1.8G.

I realize that I'd have to wait for the Zeiss, but any thoughts on these choices? What am I missing?

Thanks,

Denis
