Right, who is to say.

But stories persist of SD/CF cards that survived the Twin Towers explosion 9/11/2001 in NYC. I have a Sandisk Extreme card that seems very solid, and a cheap Adata card that survived several minutes underwater with no apparent damage.

All I can say for certain is that SD is far more reliable than USB thumb (flash) drives. I have had frequent data loss with them.

Yep I remember at least 2 times I've washed CF cards in the laundry now years later they are still working just fine.
