By the way, thus far I didn't find it particularly flare prone.  This one was taken some ten minutes before the picture I originally posted.  It is a shot right into the sun (well, through trees, but still).  No flare whatsoever:



This is, I suppose, an example where a graduated ND filter would have been handy...
