I would not bother to argue Sean, I do not think he is listening. If he is right the EPM-1 has more info than the EM5.

It looks like a standard sequence you see on DPR.

1. Buy complicated Camera

2. Try to Use it.

3. Slag it off on the Forum

4. Finally read the Manual.

Three people like his response saying I am talking rubbish. A waste of time trying to help.

More gripes (in the hopes of beginning the healing):

1. As another poster pointed out, it is trivially easy to get the camera into a set of modes that

a) You have no idea how to get out of

I have not experienced this. Examples?

b) Because you're unaware they're even on, since the camera "disappears" most of its most important setting indications from the evf/lvf after a few seconds. Are you in auto focus or manual focus? Who knows? The camera certainly won't tell you just by looking at it. Is your white balance set to daylight, tungsten, or "auto?" Who knows, the camera certainly won't tell you just by looking at it.

Wouldn't you know whether you are in AF or MF? Seriously though... the info display in my LVF or LCD is always there... unless I press the INFO button to switch to a different view. That includes WB (which doesn't display when set to Auto).

2. It is SLOW. At least compared to my G1 and GH2, both of which "woke up" from power on or sleep nearly instantaneously. And despite all the claims of having the fastest autofocus in the universe, I find my OM-D's autofocus is considerably slower than the GH2s. Note that I am using the same Panasonic lenses on the OM-D, so maybe that's the problem? Not to mention the focus box appears to be a fixed (LARGE) size and has a habit of wandering all over the place on its own.

I agree that the wake up time is slow compared to my GF1. I think the E-M5 actually powers up faster than it wakes up. My workaround for this is to carry a second battery (which I already do anyway) and increase the auto-sleep from 1 minute to 5 minutes. It's still annoying though. Once it's up though, I find this to be a fast camera. It autofocuses just as quickly with my Panny lenses (14-45mm, 20mm f/1.7, 45-200mm) and almost instantly with the Oly 45mm f/1.8 and 12-50mm. I'd say AF with the Panny 14-45mm is almost instant as well, but the 20mm f/1.7 is just a slow focusing lens. No slower than with the GF1 though. I do prefer the way S-AF works in the Panny world (set a small box and it stays), while the E-M5 requires you to press a button to get the small box (but once you set it to the smallest size, it stays there). You just need to read the DPReview guide to setting up the E-M5. Mine does not wander. Never does, but I always shoot in A,S, or M.

I would give it a little time to see if you like it, after you have modified the settings to your liking. If not, just sell it and buy another Panny. There are some great Panasonic cameras to choose from these days, and you should have no trouble getting top dollar for the "camera of the year" on eBay.
