It depends on what you do

Between personal and business, I have Canon, Sony, Olympus, and Panasonic (although no Nikon). Sony, Canon, and Nikon will all work reasonably well for more-or-less all uses. Panasonic and Olympus will work better for some uses, and not-at-all for others. Once you get into that price range, people do research. There is no best brand (although there are occasionally lemon brands).

How do you pick? It depends on what you do. I'd never take Canon or Nikon for low-light street shooting, or for use without flash at a party -- Pentax, Olympus, and Sony are king there for fast, stabilized primes. I'd pick Canon for architecture -- nice TS lenses. I'd pick Nikon if I were doing photojournalism in a war zone (for build quality), or for sports (for AF performance). Beginners are better off with EVF. Experts -- it depends on what they do -- EVF wins for some uses, and OVF for others.

You really can't generalize.
