Why can't Foveon convert to BSI?

We are talking here about taking the sensing part of the system and putting that on one chip, then connecting that chip vertically with a readout chip, same as now done with bayer, except with more interconnects. The interconnects would go from 1 per pixel to 3 per pixel, not including reset lines.

Maybe there are serious yield problems with BSI, making large versions of it prohibitively expensive except in the small sensor cameras we see using it.

Hmmmmmm ... maybe I am wrong ... but it looks to be hard to me.

The first (bluish) layer needs to be thin, and the last (reddish) layer needs to be thick.

Seems to be hard to apply the electrodes.
