Why Nikon asks for more money for a D800E than a D800? Is that a "dumb" Nikon policy?

I belive that Nikon assumes that the 800 will be for the crowd and 800E for more special purpose. So in order to do the E version they have to remove some from the 800 production line, and send them through a different production line where the specialized sensor (Without the AA filter) is mounted and the other logo. This extra production line costs money, and having a different sensor in stock also costs money. They need more components in stock for service and so on and so forth ....

This is why a specialized version of any product costs extra. I don't think Nikon or any other company is trying to rob its customers - they are living of their customers ....
