Trend: Deliberately Crooked (Diagonal) Portrait Shots
4 months ago

Forgive my negativity carrying over into the New Year of 2013, and forgive me also if I'm kind of behind on some things. However, one trend I've noticed in certain realms of photography: for people to take crooked portraits, typically diagonally at a 45 degree angle, seemingly ON PURPOSE. This is a typical shot:

I've noticed a LOT of photographers, especially young "another mom with a camera" types, really seem to do this shot a LOT. My question--what in the world are they thinking? Isn't this just about the tackiest, stupidest thing masquerading as "art" or "creativity" that I've ever seen? Where in the WORLD did someone get the idea of taking a photo as if they're drunk from last night's New Year's Eve party and can't hold a camera straight? Am I the one that's square for actually getting a "spirit level" because of trying to keep my horizons (with landscapes) as level as is possible?

Am I not the only one that's noticed this & finds it about the stupidest thing I've ever seen, or am I just old (I'm 44) and out-of-date or something?
