Thoughts on the 40-150R
Dec 31, 2012

I have had the 40-150 for over a year, and just today bought another as part of a kit for my second cam and for my kids to use.

We all love the small size, but this lens has really impressed me with its resolution and general performance across the whole zoom range. Its been so good, I have been a little surprised that it does not get a bigger response from users.

Photozone have recently completed a test of the little 40-150, and it gets a reasonable write up with comment like "the results are generally good" and "still fine at 100mm".

Then I took a closer look at the graph and the performance got over 2400 LP/PH at all focal lengths and apertures from F4 to F11, nd achieved as high as 2834 LP/PH at 40mm.

It is quite revealing to see how that compares to lenses available for the APSC format and on sensors of similar pixel count.

I would have thought the lens was worth more glowing terms when describing its performance. Does anyone agree, or am I just being an old curmudgeon?
