Does Aperture use .xmp type files?

Hi folks,
After being a Photoshop user for years, I've finally gotten sick of upgrading every time I buy a new camera and want to process the new RAW files produced by that new camera.
I've had Aperture for a long time too, but never really used it. Just curious, as I'm trying to figure out a new workflow using Aperture, I realized that some raw files I had applied "Adjustments" to now do not show those adjustments. I did move those raw files from one folder to another and then had to reimport that new folder as a new project. I was hoping that the Adjustments would have moved with the raw files, but it doesn't appear that they did.
Is there any way to preserve the Adjustment to RAW files if I separately move those RAW files around? Is maintaining the original RAW files in the original folders that were pulled in as projects the only way to keep the adjustments attached to the RAW files?
Bottom line, are there hidden files like Photoshop's .xmp files that Aperture creates with every file I adjust?
Thanks much,
Will
