Sales are over now what?

I totally agree. I can't imagine anyone would buy the D600+kit at the regular price knowing that Nikon may drop the price again at any time. Also, the used D600 market will be affected, so ultimately the price will come back to the previous discount level.

I believe there are still a lot of people waiting on the sidelines (perhaps for a D400 or a D700(s) or whatever)
