But if you want articulation and no one else has it, is Sony over charging for this innovation because no one else has it? Morally is this the right thing for them to do or would you say because they have it they are willing to gouge the consumer? IM not sure I would want to support such unethical business practices.
Maybe I should wait for Nikon or Canon to come out with articulation ( probably not going to happen any time soon) or wait for Sony to drop their price to a more consumer friendly price. ( this seems more probable) I can afford the A99 either way but would not want to buy it and then find that Sony found its moral compass and dropped the price 400 to 500 dollars.
But I'm making progress , thanks to everyone here in my quest for a camera system.
The articulating screen is a feature of A77 & A99, not the single reason for the pricing. IMHO, Sony views the A99 competitive with the D800 & 5DIII and priced it accordingly. Others view it competitive with the D600 & 6D making it overpriced. If Sony drops the price it will be because on supply & demand, not because Sony found a "moral compass". They are all great cameras, I don't think you will be unhappy with any one.

My understanding, probably reading many of the same things, is the A99 is being compared with the D600 due to having the same 24mp sensor. However the A99 includes a bunch of other higher end features like the screen and a magnesium body that I think Nikon only has in the D800? But, many people assume these aren't strong selling points and argue the A99 competes with the D600.
It was also widely assumed that the manufacturing costs on the OLED EVF is much cheaper than high end pentaprism OVFs, leading some to believe that the final price tag should reflect that.
I'm assuming (and hoping) the A99 price does fall. I want one, but I won't pay that much.
You also mentioned lens selection. There are lenses that are not generally available for Sony that are for Nikon, Canon, but got general photography or portraits, you're not likely to ever find a need for something that unavailable. They are mostly 300, 400, 500, 600mm fast primes, or I think a 50mm f1.2 that might be available from Canon. What Sony does have is Carl Zeiss lenses with auto focus. And a 100mm soft focus lens with dual apertures that is very specialized for portraits, and apparently there's nothing else like that available for anything.
Their legacy was from the purchase of Konica Minolta's camera division. They maintained the same "A" lens mount as the Minolta AF / Maxxum line (and flash mount, until the A99), and all the lenses made for them in it's 20-30 year history are fully compatible (only a select few digital flashes are). When I was looking at upgrading to a DSLR from point and shoot cameras, this (and a really good deal on an entry level Sony kit) convinced me. But I've never used Nikon or Canon DSLRs so I have very little comments on the differences.
If you haven't already I'd suggest also checking out www.dyxum.com for some information on Sony, the site's dedicated to Minolta and Sony users, and has a large set of lens information with user reviews.
And I pretty regularly find myself in low light pushing the limits of the shutter speed hand holding. And I can't believe that I'm somehow better than average at holding a camera steady (if anything, I'd guess worse?). But I pretty commonly find myself getting away with ridiculously long shutter speeds that I can only believe are due to the in body stabilization working very well. The exif on the attached shows 1/15 second at 80mm (with an A77 and Minolta 80-200 f2.8 APO).
