I've been shooting (mostly with Nikon, Leica and Hasselblad) for 4 decades. I have recently owned Canon equipment (5D Mark II w/24-105 and several other lenses) and now own a D800e, D600 and the 16-35F4, 24-70F2.8, 70-200F4, 35F1.4, 50F2 Zeiss, and 85F1.4.

Here are some thoughts for you;

If you want to do landscapes and print that big no zoom is going to do what a good prime will do. I own both zooms and primes for a reason...the zooms are convenient, the primes deliver the goods. While I love each of the 3 zooms I own, especially the 70-200 (best zoom I ever shot with and that includes the Canon 70-200F4 IS), it is still no match for the 35F1.4 nor the 85F1.4. The Zeiss is just about as good as well. I can see the difference in 18 inch prints and you should be able to as well.

Want the best you can get for landscapes? Seriousy consider the D800e with a 35F1.4 or maybe take a look at the 24F1.4.

BTW, the best lens I ever shot with on my Canon was their 135F2. Absolutely superb lens! Maybe my second favorite lens of all (first being the Leica 35mm Summicron M).

Between the Nikon 24-120 and Canon 24-105 I would give a slight edge to the Nikon. Like I said I owned the Canon and I got to sh0ot for a few days with the Nikon not too long ago. They are both ok zooms but both suffer from pretty bad distortion at the wide end and less than stellar sharpness at the corners.
