Don't worry about the lens situation. The A99 has a secondary on-sensor focus function which so far appears to me (and many others) to do nothing which can be detected by a human user. I'm also using two Sigma tele lenses - different 70-300mm models - regularly. They will never work with the PDAF-on-sensor function, nor will any older Minolta lenses, or any Tamron or Sigma (etc). But since the PDAF-on-sensor seems to contribute very little real benefit - the AF system without it is perfectly good - I don't worry at all.

There are still thousands of superb Minolta lenses and Sony developed lenses out there on the used market as well as a surprisingly good range of new ones - in fact, you'll find Sony lenses for which Canon and Nikon have no match.

My favourite lenses on the A99 - the ones I use all the time - cost me precisely £450 in total.

As you are in the UK, take a look at Ffordes.com used lenses for Minolta/Sony - it's nothing like the huge number they have for Nikon, but generally there's a great variety and you can buy, try and return for another example as well.

What would make you think I was in the UK? Did I fill out something in my registration to indicate that?

Last time I looked, I was in the North Eastern United States.

What is your favorite ?

Again thank you for your help.

One last question, Ive heard that there is an A77 inside every A99. If this is true then the A99 would be the clear choice in the Sony line.
