I'm in much the same position right now -- I have both lenses (the 35mm on loan pending receiving the Sigma 35mm f/1.4, the Tamron I own), and the SAL35F18, and I much prefer the SAL35F18. The Tamron almost never goes on my camera. Perhaps I have a bad copy, but the pictures on the Tamron just never look that great relative to my other lenses. I took some photos with some lights in the background at full aperture. The coma was extreme to the point where the photos were useless. In other photos, the contrast wasn't great. Tamron's build quality kind of sucks too.

It's not an unreasonable choice. I know many people who would prefer the versatility of the Tamron to the better IQ of the SAL35F18, but given OP's price sensitivity, I'd go with the prime.
