Why does rendering on a PC take 10 seconds compared to 0.25 seconds in-camera?

Thats what I said.   "The exact same A/D convertion takes place whether the RAW data is interpolated in the camera or on a PC". There are faster and better A/Ds. BUT high speed A/Ds are current hogs and also require highspeed differential amps to get the resolution. Not all that expensive except in the current (amperage) requirements which is a trade off in battery life (shots per charge) against bit depth, against shots per second. (frame rate). We have had 2 GB bit slice A/Ds for over 40 years and could easily have 22bit A/Ds if we slowed down frame rate to 1 frame every 2 seconds or so. Can you hear the Knashing of teeth? "My camera is so slow, and only gives me 100 shots per charge. Wah"? Give me one for landscapes, Please. I'll buy it.
