HS30: Why 8Mp is better.
Dec 30, 2012

While looking for HS25 vs HS30 materials for 3RROR I came across this: http://snapsort.com/compare/Fujifilm-HS25-EXR-vs-Fujifilm-HS30-EXR/specs , in particular true resolution parameter. From an explanation provided by the link (if you click on the parameter itself) it looks like they calculate it by lens resolution. That explains a lot - EXR use on camera with excessive number of pixels in the sensor (wrote about it before), and not much difference in image resolution between 16Mp and 8Mp for the camera. 8Mp is actually much close to the lens resolution than excessive 16Mp. Very smart move of Fujifilm indeed, but why they did not stick with 10Mp and 8Mp claimed instead of advertising flawed 16Mp? They could do  it in the camera  - what Joms does out of the camera with down-sampling 16 Mp images by about 2/3 ( he wrote about it I remember). Goodonya, mate! And Happy new Year to everyone!
