Very good, this makes some interesting reading, from e.g. Jan-oct

87 mill total sales, all digital cameras

70mill are built in Lens (does this count phones/tablets?)

17 mill with interchangeable lenses, of which

14 mill are DSLRs and

3 million non-Reflex including m43, so it will take a long time before DSLR are going....

In Japan mirror-less is 72% of DSLRs sales, in conservative Europe about 12%!!! in Americas about 18% in Asia a good 25% and in the "rest" of the world a good 30%

The total markes shares in mirrorless are (around)

Europe 34%

Asia 31%

Amerika 23%

Japan 8%

"Rest" 2%

So the most conservative market (if mirrorless can be regarded as "new") is also the biggest, and I would call Japan a progressive market, but actual figures are not soo relevant over all

Of course this data might not be all that accurate and my calculations are approximate, but overall DSLRs are the dinosaurs in the biggest markets, Europe and the Amerikas, this is why DSLRs can carry on the way they do.

When you have a look at all the pics posted in all the forums, if this is anything to go by, it looks to me that they are not so different in quality (IQ) from DSLRs to mirrorless, but when you go to the specialist forums, DLSRs have a high proportion of the really nice shots, so most people that really make a lot of effort have DSLRs, but for most users it does not really matter, as they either do not know or do not care how to set up really nice shots and get the most of the camera, so I guess most users would be happy with any mirrorless system in terms of quality at the end of the day.

It comes down to marketing, and The one system in the UK is surely marketed as the best thing since sliced bread. The rather mediocre Canon cameras, same thing, they are selling their cams on the back of the DSLR dominance, all Pana or Oly adverts to me look like they are just "also run" cameras, not much publicity in wex, argos, PC market or any other mass market retailers, and this is where the mass-sales come from not really DPR users?
