As part of the hardware standards panel here at the City Of Portland, we really enjoy our dell products. We can and do evaluate all brands of computers as we constantly strive to make sure we are doing the best for our customers that we can, balancing budget, performance and support.

I am also Dell certified to accelerate our service time turning around the occasional product that has a problem.

Dell service is second to none, and for the money spent is one of the better deals to be had in the computer industry.

So there you have it...an opposing viewpoint and being our team places over 1000 new dells every year, I have a reasonable understanding of dells quality.

Sorry but I had too often too many Problems with Dell. My current Dell Laptop can't be used in a Docking Station in temperatures of 21 celsius degrees and above. It just gets too hot and nothing is working then. Out of the Docking Station I can work up to 24 degrees outside temperature...never mind the other Problems I have with this machine. How can dell sell such a Business Laptop to Corporations....all my colleagues hate their dell Laptop...My old private Desktop PC was also mess. It was so difficult to upgrade the machine since dell has his own Standards...No dell for me anymore...

We have had very little problems from our dell latitude, or dell optiplex, and when needed ruggedized laptops. Just dont see the problems your saying happen. Our customers are extreemly happy with the units they get. We wouldnt buy them if they wernt. Its our top priority to make sure what we purchase meets the need of the customer we are supporting. Because Dell meets that mark, we buy over 1000 of them a year...so I have a fairly good sampling to speak from. We get occiationsl bad memory stick...or a hard drive that fails, but those are right at or after the first week, and I can remember only like 2-3 units needing these kind of repairs over the last 4-5 years.

Are you using a laptop designed to be used outside? If so which model? Hopefully you do not say ATG. It was the only dell we avoid. I did the research and it only meets 4 of the 24+ criteria for ruggedized specifications. If you want gear that works in more extreems climates and temps, the truly ruggadized XFR is the way to go...and we get these all the time...and they do work.
