Agree with Midwest's recommendations. You can get a really nice Win7 PC (box) for under $500 nowadays.

For those who have the extra bucks, I highly recommend installing a Solid State Drive to be used as the "c:" drive (it'll be your windows Paging File drive, and also your Photoshop Scratch Disk as well). The SSDs are very very fast and provide a notable increase in performance.

Point of order as an IT guy; Having your paging file on an SSD is a horrible idea for the longevity of the device. SSDs (like CF and SD) have finite read-write cycles before the stop working. And while they have firmware that tries to maximize the life, having something like the paging file on the SSD is a *bad* idea. You're *much* better off spending the bux to double your RAM and leaving the paging file on a traditional disk.

I have no disagreement with that. You replied to my post but someone else mentioned the SSD. I too would avoid using one for heavy read/write duty until such time as they are made to function long-term under such use.

Do people really spend $700 on a camera so they can take a picture of a squirrel or a duck?
