Sure, stacking several shorter exposures is the best solution. You gain the total data of a long exposure and noise is smoothed out. I typically use 5 to 10 minutes. But then, if you are going to stay awake all the night with a Sony camera, you need to bring with some spare batteries -- at least with the SLR models -- or rely on an AC/DC adapter.
