SX260 vs S100 for low light
Dec 28, 2012

I currently am using an old Canon Powershot G9.  It works great however is bulky and heavy.  Most of my shots are at concerts.  Mostly dark, but subject is lit by a spotlight.  Subject may be moving around alot and may be at a distance.  It is also does not support HD video.

I put CHDK on my powershot G9 set the shutter to 1/30 and limited the ISO to 200 and have gotten good results.

I'm looking for something smaller that can fit in a pocket easily and get my similar results plus HD video.  I like that the SX260, but I notice the aperture is only F3.5 which makes me suspicious of its low light performance.  The S100 looks promising although the zoom is only 5X.

I'd appreciate any comments/suggestions/recommendations.
