Thanks, everyone, for the tips and the links. I'm going to try Raw + Jpeg with the Jpeg set at increased vivid, sharpness and contrast, but I only use the Raw files for processing  in Lightroom (using the suggested preset somewhere here in DPR), highlights and shadows, auto-ISO  with min. speed 1/60 and max. ISO 3200, A mode, increased EVF frame rate for faster auto-focus, Mega-OIS off, IBIS on, 3.5FPS for birds, and see how it does. Even without those settings, I have had results in good light and relatively stationary birds comparable to my Nikon D7000 with 300 F/4 AF-S and 1.7TC.
