In the EOS 5D mark II Manual the procedure for attaching a lens doesn't even mention turning off the camera.

Yeah, changing lenses etc with the 5d while the Camera on is a non event. In fact, the only time I switch the 5d off is when I want to trigger the sensor cleaning process otherwise it's always left on and it foes into sleep mode. Don't really see any battery drain doing this and it means the camera is always ready.

As I posted, it is a non even with Sony Alpha DSLRs/DSLT's as well. Shutting off the camera when changing lenses is not mentioned even in passing in the manuals (A700, A33/55, A77) . The manual mentions being careful to avoid getting dust and dirt in the camera, but nothing about turning it off when changing lenses. I think if it doing so had a significant probability of bricking the camera, it would have been mentioned.
