This won't apply to me, as I have the "release w/o lens" option changed from default, to allow me to use legacy glass. The camera doesn't know the difference between a Canon FDN 50mm and thin air

Hi Guys,

Sorry it took so long to reply, honestly wasnt expecting much from the post. Before returning the camera for a Full refund i did do many tests to try and find out what caused it.

History on the camera:
Used very lightly (3 occasions for roughly 20min). I mainly use my nex cams for video so i had only recorded 4 or 5 three minute clips.
Had less than 100 shutter releases, maybe 50-70 photos taken. For this reason i doubt i had a faulty shutter.

Camera Settings:
-Full Manual - Mode
-Release W/O Lens - ON (Obviously if using my Sigma lens) Sorry! @martindesu thats the first thing i do when i buy my NEX bodys.
-Single Shooting
-RAW+Jpeg
-AWB

Diagnosis:

1. Removed Battery
2. Changed lenses
3. Removed/Changed Memory Cards
4. Let sit for 3 hours and retried the above.
5. Plugged in to NEX AC adapter (AC-PW20) to see if battery was the problem
At first i also thought that it was very unlikely that the Hot swapping caused the problem.
However i cant ignore the very strange thing that happened to the LCD screen upon doing so.

It was almost like the screen got overloaded with light once the 16mm pancake was removed. Then when i swapped to my 28-70 + EF-E adapter i could see an image but it was very Noisy and Grainy and multicolored like something out of a Trippy 70's movie.
I definitely got an immediate feeling that the camera didn't like what i had just done.

Sensor over saturation is common when hot swapping. I have seen this on all Nex cameras. It is not the cause for your failure mode, I think. Merely a coincident,
