D800 issues?

If your LV is "staggering sharp" whereas your normal AF is off in the center as well as both sides, you need to tune that 14-24mm a bit.  Mine has a lot of minus AF tuning dialed in as it backfocuses a bit even since new (and Nikon worked on it too since right out of the box as it backfocused like city block behind the AF point with no attempt of getting it close in AF tuning menu.). I may have around a -7 set now and it does change over the zoom range which is a "Nikon Zoom Annoyance."  Nikon wasn't as nice as Canon by allowing us to compensate in the menu for their zooms at the extremes as Canon and Olympus does in their better cameras.

If you can get the thing to focus on say a newspaper on a wall with the center, and then try the left and right sensors to see if they "differ" from each other.  If the outer sensors do not differ, and the center is good or a bit better as expected, then it is good to go.  If your left is "unreadable" and the right is "readable," then you got an issue with the body and maybe time for Nikon Service to intercede.
