Apologies if my lack of photographic knowledge is catching.

The idea that noise reduction always reduces the sharpness and fine detail of a picture must be abandoned. In order to get good results with the Fujifilm HS30 one can use the intelligent sharpness, together with the noise reduction. First one is NR low, second one is NR middle, third one is NR high.
