When is enough enough? Locked

Going to the city (Sydney) yesterday was a rare outing for me. After ordering my E-PL5 (gear talk insert here) the sun came out so wandered down to the Quay area and watched the seagulls and tourists (hmmm, same thing most times).

Over the years the tourist spotting game has been interesting, really has shifted from Japanese to mostly Chinese now but the thing we observe is the camera in use. Quite a few DSLRs by foreign and local tourists but the was-once-ubiquitous pocket camera has just about disappeared and has been replaced by smartphones.

Those smartphone images will get to farcebook and most likely never be printed so quality really does not matter at all. It's a case of "look mum, I'm here at the Opera House in Sydney". Only the teeny tiny minority get all excited about image quality and whether it will print to 16x20.

We (the world's population) never took so many photos and also never printed or kept so few. Future historians will wonder why nobody ever recorded this century. The stupid reliance on "the cloud" to take care of everything will be "civilisation's" undoing.

Not sure if I'm agreeing or arguing but in a Tedolf thread it does not really matter, the main thing is to get the Tedolf post count as high as possible.
