Some people may chalk it up to a DUD or a Lemon but that means little to me at this point. I will be holding out of the NEX series of cameras until the NEX-7 replacement. For lack of a better word, as a NEX enthusiast this experience has been a "TurnOff" to say the least!

Yes, I have just bought the 5r and whilst I love the new features, the general 'quality' (construction and materials) is definitely a step or two down from my original NEX 5 (which I found, and still find very impressive in terms of build) and the NEX 5n

I played with a NEX 6 in a camera store a little while ago and was rather disappointed with how plastic it felt - I certainly didn't see the quality in it that I saw in the NEX 7, and in fact it seemed slightly less well put together than the 5r to my hands.  Again, very nice features on the camera but I think Sony are trying to leverage their profits a little too much on the NEX range now by cutting a few corners on construction over how they made things previously

If I get another NEX in future then I will certainly also be looking at higher models in the range as I'm beginning to lose a little confidence with the lower models of this generation

Your problem may have had nothing to do with the lens change, but if it was because of that then it's a pretty poor show...  either a QC problem or a design problem - no well-designed camera should 'break' because you change a lens without switching it off first!
