Common knowledge - power off before you remove the lens, unless you want to fry the camera.
All fair enough, it is in the manual after all. But the curious geek in me wants to know - why?
I've got a NEX5N and Ive never done this. Admittedly I dont use it much since I got the Rx100 but I swapped lenses frequently when the camera was switched on, particularly when having ebay adaptors on the camera to let me shoot old lenses I've got hanging around. Never bothered powering down.
Why is this a fatal action for the NEX6? Surely Sony could make the camera know when the lens is removed and so power down the quantum flux capacitors to ensure they don't overload on anti matter and blow out the inverted phase matrix?
Can someone explain to me why removing the lens from a powered up NEX6 is bad, when it makes no difference to my old NEX5N?
Thanks
I guess that's the whole point, you don't have to if you don't want to. You can also put petrol in a diesel vehicle if you want to. That's the beauty of life, its all a choice.
I only shoot MF legacy so no problem. I did see one lens the other day though that had a large gouge through the electronic contacts and that went off the Nikon to fix. AF went AWOL. So you don't have to even clean the contact area if you don't want to.
I would have a think about doing it though just the same
Danny.
