Just wanted to share my experiences with my new NEX-6 purchased 30 days ago.

I woke up Xmas morning ready to take many pictures as would be expected. I had been switching lenses back and forth (16mm pancake + UW to Sigma 28-70mm). Now i know that in the NEX-6 manual it now states that when swapping lenses, to turn the power off.
This is something that i never did with my NEX-5N or my NEX-7, so naturally i took that warning with a grain of salt. Fatal "error" it seems. After about 3 or 4 swaps without turning the camera off, on the 5th swap to my pancake, i noticed the Gain and Noise go Ballistic on the LCD for about 2 seconds. Then it went back to normal. I thought this was strange but didnt think anything of it and went on and snapped 5 or 10 more shots.

Soon after, as i was taking a shot then all of a sudden the cam took 6 or 7 shots in a burst mode (even though i wasnt holding down the shutter button) then displayed "Error - Please turn camera body off". Which i did, but every time after that point, when trying to take a shot the camera would once again fire off 5 or 6 bursts and then display the error.

After about 3min of powering the camera off and then back on i noticed that the shutter had locked shut. Now when i turn the camera on the shutter remains closed.

Moral of the Story: Follow what is written in the Manual !!! Dont make the mistake i did.

Luckily since i purchased the body during the holiday season at a local camera store, the return policy was extended till mid January however, For me, this was a dealbreaker. Any camera that crapps out so badly over a simple thing as swapping a lens definitely lends itself to build quality and software engineering IMO. I've always gave Sony the benefit of the doubt but this shotty manufacturing i cant look past.

I loved the NEX-6 it seemed to settle alot of the gripes that i had with the 5N and the 7 however this was my last straw.

Some people may chalk it up to a DUD or a Lemon but that means little to me at this point. I will be holding out of the NEX series of cameras until the NEX-7 replacement. For lack of a better word, as a NEX enthusiast this experience has been a "TurnOff" to say the least!

Maybe not the most amazing post ever, but in the top ten.

Common knowledge - power off before you remove the lens, unless you want to fry the camera.  For those who don't know it, it's in the manual.

So it's obvious that you are responsible for the camera's failure - you admitted that, and you admit that you are not going to accept the consequences of your mistakes.  But then you seem to want to blame Sony.  Why?
