Improved Pancake?

Not reading a lot of positive things about the pancake lens, but sure wouldn't mind making my 7 a little more compact. I've been sufficiently scared off of buying one for now. Have there been any hints that Sony is working to correct the flaws in this lens and will be introducing a better performing version?
