Think Olympus m4/3 hoods are expensive?

The Sony RX1 lens hood is $179 US!  And the viewfinder is $450.

A few years ago, camera makers tried to make money from high priced proprietary software, proprietary memory cards, expensive proprietary batteries, branded camera bags, etc.  Now it seems they are trying to make money from highly priced 'accessories' that used to be part and parcel of the package (lens hoods, etc.), and equally trying to save money by gutting their service departments and declaring all defects to be 'within specs'.

These strategies just make customers angry.  Call me old fashioned, but I still think good customer service pays for itself.
